What Is An OBGYN?

An OBGYN is a doctor with specific training in obstetrics and gynecology. Obstetrics encompasses medical care before, during, and after a woman gives birth. Gynecology focuses on women’s bodies and reproductive health. We recommend our patients visit for yearly well-woman exams to ensure they are healthy or treat any causes for concern early. Our OBGYNs at Foremost Family Health Centers in Dallas have completed extensive education requirements enabling them to diagnose, treat, manage, and prevent women’s healthcare problems.

Understanding the Basics of Prenatal Care

Prenatal care includes any medical assistance you receive during pregnancy. Our obstetricians are committed to keeping you and your future baby healthy. Prenatal care is essential because it involves routine testing and monitoring of your baby’s development to prevent potential problems. You should schedule an appointment with our team as soon as you know you are pregnant. During the first few months of your pregnancy, appointments will only be necessary every four to six weeks. But as your due date approaches, the frequency of prenatal appointments will increase. We will make sure you and your baby are ready for childbirth.

When You Should Visit an OBGYN?

Preventative care is the best way to address health issues, so we recommend scheduling OBGYN appointments at Foremost Family Health Centers at least once a year. During your annual visit, we will evaluate your condition and conduct lab tests to detect various potential diseases. We will also perform a pelvic exam and provide any immunizations you need. In addition to your annual visit, we recommend visiting an OBGYN whenever changes in your reproductive cycle occur. These changes may include pregnancy, perimenopause, or menopause. Furthermore, contact us right away if you experience any of the following:

  • Changes in the frequency or volume of menstrual bleeding
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Pain or other symptoms during urination
  • Suspected infertility
  • Unusual cramping
